When the dust of the bruising battles settles, one team will emerge the winner with the trophy over its head and own the coveted spot among revered champions.
The last two remaining teams in each division look to be the one doing it as Game 1 of the best-of-three finals of the F2 Logistics Cesafi secondary volleyball tournament gets underway this afternoon at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.
In the boys division, last year’s losing finalist, the USC Baby Warriors, hope to go a step better and end a four-year title drought against the inspired Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma spikers who have caught everyone’s fancy being the only undefeated team this season with a clean 6-0 (win-loss) record.
The USC–SWU-Phinma championship series starts at 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, in girls play, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and the SWU-Phinma Baby Cobras also start their own finals duel at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) and the University of Cebu (UC) look to salvage their respective seasons as they battle for third place in girls play, while the 2016 champions USPF eyes to end their season on a high note as they take on UC for the bronze medal in the boys division.
USJ-R and USPF battle for last semis spot
In the men’s play, defending champions USJ-R and USPF gun for the last semis spot against separate opponents to open the weekend.
The Spiking Jaguars aim to keep their title-retention bid alive when they go up against winless UC while USPF needs to win in three or four sets against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University to clinch the last semis spot and deny USJ-R a trip to the Final Four.
Both USPF and USJ-R are currently tied at 2–3 (win-loss) cards with the former holding a one-point advantage in the point system.
The USJ-R–UC match is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. to be followed by the USPF vs. CIT-U tussle.
