Minibus mishap in Oslob; 21 hurt

About 21 nuns and teachers of a Catholic school were injured when the minibus they rode in fell on its side along the national road of Barangay Catadman, Oslob town, located 118 kilometers south of Cebu City at 6 a.m yesterday.

PO1 Julius Sumilhig of the Oslob police precinct said the minibus driver identified as Roy Cubil was headed south with his passengers and descended on a curved road when he supposedly lost control of the brakes.

The vehicle fell on the side, injuring the nuns and teachers.

The 33-year-old Cubil is a native of San Vicente town in South Cotabato, Mindanao, and was the stay-in driver of Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy based in Minglanilla town located 18 kilometers north of Cebu City.

Victims were immediately rescued by Oslob police personnel and brought to the Oslob district hospital.

Three of the passengers were later transferred to a Cebu City hospital.

Cubil was eventually released after the victims agreed not to file charges.

The accident caused heavy traffic congestion to roads leading to Oslob town, Sumilhig said.
