ABOUT P600,000 or 10,000 euros were turned over by the delegation Vriendschapsband Haarlemmermeer-Cebu (VHC) to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) yesterday to help augment its pediatric ward.

The amount raised in an auction by VHC stemmed from Cebu City’s sister ties with Haarlemmermeer, Netherlands.

“Last year we had an official delegation that visited Cebu and CCMC in particular. The delegation was very overwhelmed when they saw the children in the pediatric ward, hence their desire to do something for the children in the pediatric ward,” said Jan Willem, one of the delegates from VHC.

Councilor Margot Osmeña, vice chairperson of the Cebu City Sister Ties Commission, said the amount will help build a pediatric ward that can help more indigent children in need of care.

“Not only for small people, but really geared towards children so that they will see it as a place of healing,” she said.

Osmeña said the current pediatric ward in the CCMC leaves much to be desired.

“They’re making the best of what they have, but the patients are still sharing beds,” the councilor said.

The VHC delegation also gave stuffed toys to the children confined at the CCMC pediatric ward.
