Here’s why the Chevrolet Trailblazer is still a contender

THE CHEVROLET Trailblazer may be one of the oldest midsize SUVs on the streets today, but it’s definitely not a pushover.

The American SUV just got a facelift last year, and we think the updates make the Trailblazer a strong contender in a market dominated by newer competitors.

The SUV’s strengths include a powerful engine — a 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine that produces class-leading numbers of 200 pferdestarkes (197 horsepower) of power and 500 newton meter of torque, and a spacious interior.

Another thing going for it is its 800mm wading depth, something which is very crucial for us Cebuanos without flood-prone streets.

The face-lifted version also sports a more aggressive front end that underlines its go-anywhere capability.

Most notable up front is its new grille, bumper and headlamps that come with daytime running lights.

Here are reasons why we think this toughie should be among the top choices in the midsize SUV segment:

The updated version now stands on more handsome 18-inch gunmetal alloy wheels.

It has a remote-start function, a useful feature in the region’s hot climate. The engine can be started using the key fob, allowing the cabin to be cooled sufficiently before occupants enter the SUV.

It is fitted with new technology usually found in the premium segment, such as Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto® capability. This allows the driver or passengers to project a simplified version of their smartphone screen onto the car’s color touchscreen.

Driver assist features such as Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, Front and Rear Parking Assist, make driving this huge SUV easy and safe.
