Freedom Park vendors start cutting prices of flowers, candles

Wanting to sell all their flowers and candles before they finally head home to mark All Souls’ Day, vendors at the Freedom Park in Cebu City have started to offer their products at discounted prices on Wednesday afternoon.

The prices of flowers and candles dropped between P10 to P50.

Gilda Gilig, 47, chose to offer her bouquet of flowers with a discount of P20. “I-bouquet na lang ni nako. Maayo na lang makalusot ang puhonan (I arranged my flowers in a bouquet. Hopefully I will be able to dispose these and recover my capital),” Gilig said.

Like Gilig, other Freedom Park vendors also opted to offer their flowers at lower prices. Yellow chrysanthemum that were priced at P180 per dozen on Monday were already priced between P100 to P130 per dozen on Wednesday afternoon.

A dozen of Aster was also sold from P130 to P80.

The price of flower baskets was also cut by half, from its original price of P50 per piece, baskets are now sold at P25.

Candles were also sold at a reduced price. Big vigil candles that used to be at P120 per piece were already sold for P80 while small vigil candles were priced between P15 to P25 or at a reduced price of P10.

However, there are still some vendors who continue to sell their flowers with its original prices saying that they wanted to recover the cost of transporting the products to Cebu.

Flower vendor Dhanna Arda said she sourced her supplies from Baguio City, Davao and Cagayan de Oro.

Arda said she sourced her roses from Cagayan de Oro. From its original price of P200 per bundle, she sold these between P250 to P280 per bundle.

“Giplitihan pa man gud sa eroplano unya sa Baguio kay nagtaas pud na silag presyo tungod sa demand gikan diri sa Cebu (We spent for its airfare and the suppliers in Baguio did not sell their flowers for cheaper prices because of the demand coming from Cebu),” Arda said.
