Jerick Obaob of Manila and Butuan’s Roy Lora combined perfect sets, acrobatic digs and powerful hits to bring down Mark Sotea and Matt Tungul of UST in the tense final of the Supermix Men’s Doubles division in the Primary Structures Badminton Club’s Play It Forward 4 held last Oct. 28-29 at the Metro Sports Lahug.
The biggest badminton tournament in Cebu to date, has pulled through despite some local entries playing the no-show card to protest the long breaks in between games.
In the Men’s Doubles Level D, the Bergantin brothers – Kevin and Steve of Cebu topped Iligan’s Jim Boy Franca and Janick Parot while the Level E finals extended to three sets won by SWU-PHINMA’s Ryan Jay Doromal and Janrhel Clark Asombrado against the Manila pair of Dom Lazaro and Mark Sebastian.
Cebu also lorded over Level F as Roseller Malaki Ibrahim and Jessie Miñoza outplayed Leyte’s Vin Maasin Cezar and Andrew Lumaghos. Level G also had its own three setter between Jeemil Aranas/Edward Agosto and Mark Cecille Tongco/Joseph Laborte won by the former. For the Men’s Executive (40 up) Division, Iligan bagged the top prize courtesy of Dimzon Baguio/Melvin Sartorio who beat Bohol’s Jonathan Petalcorin/Paolo Silagan.
In the Women’s Doubles Level D, Jennifer Saladaga/Badet Gimena of Davao won the crown over Cebu’s Kathlyn Arevalo/Diana Balungcas. Arevalo and Balungcas made up for their loss with wins in Level E albeit alongside different partners. Kathlyn Arevalo/Angel Pasquil defeated Diana Balungcas/Mitch Fernandez for the top spot. For Level F, Arienne Arrejo/Danice Colao of Cebu grabbed first place from Davao’s Jan Tabunan/Kim Pace. Joan Ismael/Jenneth Strokman won against Mabel Quiban/Kai Gomez in the Level G while Davao claimed the top two spots for the Women’s Executive Category, with Adelle Omaña/Vivien Bermudez winning over Amie Bautista/Ruby Ibarra.
Winners in the Mixed Doubles Category were: Supermix Mixed Doubles – champion: Nestor Tapales/Elloise Canillo, runner-up: Mark Sotea/Lizlee Indelible. Mixed Level D – champion: Joseph Patalinghug/Elloise Canillo, runner-up: Janick Parot/Lizlee Indelible. Mixed Level E – champion: Mark Caralde/Faith Liban, runner-up: Mark Encomio/Kristine Manalo. Mixed Level F- champion: John Resca Maramara/Kay Alpuerto, runner-up: Eizer Soliman/Kim Pace. Mixed Level G – champion: Rhel John Mosnit/Shallonah Felices, runner-up: Junnel Garcia/Isshy Perez. Mixed Executive Category – champion: AR Cube/Adelle Omaña, runner-up: Dimzon Baguio/Arlene Tormis.
