Run to Give 2017: Cebu City Marriott Hotel’s first fun run

WHAT was expected to be a rainy Saturday turned out to be a brilliant morning with just enough cloud cover as over 600 runners took to the streets of Cebu Business Park last September 23 for Cebu City Marriott Hotel’s first fun run called Run to Give 2017.

In line with Marriott International’s global wellness campaign called Take Care, Cebu Marriott took part in this Asia Pacific-wide initiative, bringing together family, friends, guests, clients, partners, and running enthusiasts of all ages to run for a cause The fun run benefited Rise Above Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping improve the quality of life for the poor and underprivileged by providing educational opportunities, livelihood training, and health and hygiene programs. The foundation has helped thousands of women and children by organizing feeding programs for kids, helping women set up small businesses and much more.

Cebu City Marriott Hotel General Manager Patrick Carroll, Director of Operations Joe Xavier Fijardo and Director of Sales and Marketing Frances Alfafara spearheaded the fun run, together with Race Director Kenneth Casquejo.

There were 135 participants for the 10k category, 211 for the 5k category and over 300 joined the 3k route. Runners enjoyed warm up and cool down exercises facilitated by the Zynergy Dance Group. While there were no cash prizes since all proceeds were given to Rise Above Foundation, the top 3 finishers in each category took home Top 3 finishers’ medals, certificates of completion and gift certificates from Cebu City Marriott Hotel and gift packs from International Pharmaceuticals Inc. All participating runners also had the chance to win in the raffles with prizes ranging from wellness items, premium travel items, gadgets, lunch and dinner gift certificates from the Garden Café and overnight stays at the Cebu Marriott, Manila Marriott and other sister properties in Medan, Bali and Seoul.

With the overwhelming support of the community, Cebu City Marriott Hotel turned over P100,000 to Rise Above Foundation. /PR
