Batang Pinoy Visayas begins

DUMAGUETE CITY — Around 2,500 student athletes from different parts of the region will strut their wares in the first-ever Batang Pinoy Visayas Games 2017, which officially comes off the wraps today at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex here.

The multi-sporting meet for athletes aged 15 and below which is organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will feature 19 sporting events that will be held in various venues around this city that is part of Negros Oriental province.

A total of 2,731 medals are at stake in the meet which serves as the qualifiers for next year’s national finals.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez and PSC commissioner Mon Fernandez will be among the personalities who will grace today’s opening ceremonies that start at 4 p.m. They will be joined by VIPs from the local government unit.

Team Cebu City Niños, last year’s second placer in the National Finals, will field in 250 athletes while Cebu province will be pitting 232.
