ABOUT 150 households in the Muslim community in Sitio Iba, Barangay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City received Christmas gifts from the Lapu-Lapu City police’s City Intelligence Branch yesterday.

The CIB earlier arranged with Muslim community leaders to conduct the gift-giving activity, and they were given a list of 150 households as beneficiaries.

The gift packs each consisted of rice, canned goods and other necessities.

“We decided to give gifts to our Muslim brothers and sisters because we also want them to be happy and be part of the celebration of the Christmas season,” Chief Insp. Mark Sucalit said.

The Mactan Police Precinct also distributed gifts to 150 households in another Muslim community in Barangay Pajac.

“We do it early as we will be very busy by Christmas time due to a lot of Christmas parties and other activities,” said Chief Insp. Wayne Magbanua, Mactan Police Precinct chief.

Senior Supt. Rommel Cabagnot, Lapu-Lapu City police chief, said they also gave gifts to families in Caohagan Islet. Among the beneficiaries were 160 children who each received toys, he said.

He said their Police Community Relations office will serenade and give gifts to indigents next month.

“We take advantage of the Christmas season to give gifts and build friendships with everyone in the community,” Cabagnot said.
