THE fire victims of Barangays Mantuyong and Guizo in Mandaue City that occupied a lane of the Mantawi road at the back of the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) are given until the end of this month to leave the site.
Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel “Luigi” Quisumbing said these fire victims were already given aid by the Mandaue City government since they were not tagged as beneficiaries of the 9.2-hectare government-donated lot.
He said these people are just renters and sharers and didn’t own a house in the government donated lot in parts of Barangays Mantuyong and Guizo.
Since the fire two years ago, they were also allowed to mount shanties in the CICC and Mantawi road temporarily while the city has yet to develop the fire hazard area.
Most of these 50 families located at Mantawi road asked for a relocation site. But the mayor said they may be given another financial assistance to help them find a place to live in.
The beneficiaries of the 9.2-hectare government-donated lot that number more than 200 families are still at the CICC grounds since the city government has yet to finish building their relocation site that occupy three parcels of land.
“We are badly in need of roads considering the traffic situation in Mandaue City and we need to remove these people occupying the Mantawi road,” Quisumbing said.
The shanty owners were told to transfer to the CICC grounds until the Mandaue City government starts redeveloping the site.
