The Cebu City government has assured business owners not to worry about their sales during the Sinulog celebration next year despite the planned liquor ban.
During a public consultation on Tuesday, city officials met with the owners and representatives of establishments seen to feel the impact of the liquor ban.
Many business owners raised their concerns on the possible decline of sales. Some suggested that the city government should exempt indoor restaurants and bars from the ban. Other businessmen also called for a tax relief for affected establishments.
Francisco Fernandez, executive assistant of Mayor Tomas Osmeña, said vendors may bring their businesses to the South Road Properties (SRP), which will become the party center during Sinulog.
He added that the city may also provide transportation for vendors.
Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak noted that it has been a trend for establishments to earn higher in the months of November and December in comparison to
January and June, so the ban should not greatly affect their business.
The ban is proposed to take place starting 6 a.m. on January 21 until the same time on January 22.
Aside from selling liquors, staging concerts, shows, performances, gigs, recitals, events and street parties will also be prohibited. Added to the prohibition is the extension of tables and chairs outside the premises of establishments within the 300-meter radius of the parade and procession route. /Steffi Kyle Nolido, USC Communications Intern
