RIO Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz settled for a bronze medal in the 2017 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships in Anaheim, California, yesterday.
Diaz bagged the bronze medal in the women’s 53-kilogram, roughly a year after she won a silver medal in Brazil.
The 26-year-old three-time Olympian from Zamboanga City ranked sixth in the snatch after lifting 86kg but managed to recover in the clean and jerk after she had her best lift in her second try of 113kg for a total of 199kg good for bronze.
Topping her category was Sopita Tanasan of Thailand who lifted a total of 204kg in the snatch and clean and jerk while Turkmenistan’s Kristina Shermetova settled for silver after lifting a total 201kg.
