Two brothers with guns nabbed in Toledo raid

Two of three brothers were arrested on Thursday after police, searching for illegal firearms, raided their house in Barangay Pagamihan, Toledo City.

The third brother, Eduardo Cabelles, of legal age, escaped after he shot it out with the raiding police team.

His two brothers Guillermo, 43, and Jovenal, 32, were caught in the raid.

PO2 Joselito Genon, Toledo City Police Station desk officer, said that a team of police officers were serving a search warrant issued by Judge Hermes Montero of Regional Trial Court Branch 69 of Toledo City for illegal possession of firearms against the brothers.

Genon said they conducted the raid after they received reports about residents fearing the brothers who were reportedly armed and were linked to cultivating marijuana plants in the area.

Genon said that when the police team arrived, Eduardo, allegedly fired at them and the police officers fired back.

Genon said no one was hurt in the shootout but Eduardo escaped and left behind ammunition, a revolver, and a medium size pack containing dried marijuana leaves with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of P5,500.

Eduardo’s brothers, however, were caught with a revolver and an improvised shotgun.

The arrested brothers, Guillermo and Jovenal, were detained at the Toledo police station pending the filing of charges.

Genon said cases of illegal possession of firearms, resisting arrest, and possesion of illegal drugs would still be filed against Eduardo, who remained at large.
