VICTIMS of cyber-pornography in Cebu have gotten younger in recent years, with the youngest barely an infant, the Children’s Legal Bureau (CLB) said yesterday.
In yesterday’s forum on commercial sexual exploitation, CLB litigation and advocacy coordinator Noemi Truya-Abarientos said the latest cyberpornography victim they rescued was a two-year-old from Lapu-Lapu City.
The CLB together with civil society groups like Girls Advocacy Alliance, Terre Des Hommes, and Plan International held the conference to raise public awareness and mobilize public support in the fight against trafficking and cyberpornography.
Abarientos said the CLB seeks to strengthen coordination between government, civil society organizations, the private sector and the community in the campaign.
She said hotel and resort owners and money transfer outlets play a big part in monitoring foreign and domestic visitors suspected of being involved in child trafficking and cyberpornography.
“It is alarming that the online sexual exploitation or what we called cyber sex nagkabata ang biktima naa nay mga infants (the victims are younger like we have infants as victims). Somehow we must treat this seriously. We are happy that the private sector are supportive of us,” Abarientos said.
