CIT-U also a team to watch in APUG

THE UNIVERSITY of Cebu (UC) table paddlers may be the favorites in the table tennis event of the Asia Pacific University Games (APUG), but the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats are also a team to watch when competition begins today at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The Wildcats, third place finishers in the first APUG in 2015, will battle against reigning champions UC Webmasters, and runner-up Universiti Teknologi – Mara (UTM) of Malaysia in the two-day event.

Head coach Eric Villarin is excited to see how his team will perform in a high level competition, especially since some of his players are new.

“We’ll try to perform our best. It will be more fun and exciting since I have a new set of players,” he said.

CIT-U will actually have veterans in its lineup. These are Jonell Eumague, Marnie Jamille Garcia, and Mary Jouyn Gaviola, all of whom played in the 2015 edition. The newbies are Niño Inocencio Zosa, Niel Angelo Alingal, Clint Arcel Siason. Bryan Teo, Vida Bella Gamboa, Mary Grace Beron, Vaniessa Cyd Sabello and Catherine Kaye Perdido.

CIT-U has had its share of spotlight in this year’s Cesafi, finishing runner-up in the women’s competition last September.
