THE MINGLANILLA Archangels and the San Fernando Spartans will clash for the championship in the Samsam Gullas Cup 2017 after they bested their opponents in the semifinals on Tuesday night at separate venues.
The Archangels ousted the defending champions Talisay City Aquastars, 96-87, at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.
Fifteen-year-old wonderboy Steve Nash Enriquez was up to his old tricks again as he scored 32 points and added seven steals.
The rookie standout from the University of the Visayas (UV) was also named the tournament’s top scorer after he finished the elimination round with an average of 24.86 points.
Over at the Enan Chiong Activity Center in the City of Naga, the Spartans eked past the Naga City Electrifiers, 85-83.
Jhonson Saramosing filled the stat sheet with 19 points, eight boards, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot to lead the Spartans to the finals, which begins with Game 1 on Thursday at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.
The Spartans appear to have the mental edge in this showdown after they clobbered Minglanilla, 70-46, in their lone encounter in the competition.
In that game, the Spartans put the clamps on Enriquez, holding him down to a tournament-low nine points on 2-of-16 shooting.
