UC, SWU-Phinma, USC, USPF in Cesafi boys b’volley Final 4

Defending boys champion University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters made it to the semifinal round of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) beach volleyball tournament after chalking up a 11-21, 21-15, 15-8, victory over Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in the last match of the elimination round yesterday at the Fort San Pedro sand court.

UC finished has six wins and one defeat to create a three-way tie with Southwestern University-Phinma (SWU-Phinma) and last year’s finalists University of San Carlos (USC).

Cesafi officials used the quotient system to break the tie and SWU-Phinma emerged as the top team going into the semis. UC, USC and University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) were the second to fourth placers, respectively.

USPF finished fourth after ending the elimination round with four wins and three losses.

In the semis, SWU-Phinma will face USP-F while UC takes on USC.

In the women’s division, top ranked USJ-R Lady Jaguars remained unbeaten in four games after edging defending champions SWU-Phinma Lady Cobras, 21-17, 21-12.

USJ-R will face the winless USPF (0-3) in the semifinals.

The other semifinalist in the women’s wars are SWU-Phinma (2-1) and UC (1-3).

In the girls division, the reigning champs Lady Cobras booked a semifinal seat after edging Cebu Eastern College (CEC), 19-21, 21-15, 15-6, for their third straight win against two losses.

SWU-Phinma is currently ranked fourth in the final four and will play against top ranked USP-F (4-1) in the semifinals. UC (4-1) and USJ-R (3-2) lock horns in the others semis duel.

The semis and the remaining elimination round matches of the men’s division will be held on December 16 at the same venue.
