IT WILL BE a very merry Christmas for the winners of the “Pamaskong Handog ng Salon de Rose” Open Chess Tournament with more than P50,000 at stake in the December 23 event at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
The one-day tournament has already attracted some of Cebu’s best wood pushers including Grand Master (GM) Enrico Sevillamo and International Masters (IM) Rico Mascariñas and Kim Steven Yap.
The nine-round Swiss system rapid format tournament allots 15 minutes playing time and ten-second increment per round.
The champion will bag P20,000 while the second placer will receive P10,000. Third- to fifth-placers will get P7,000, P5,000 and P4,000, respectively.
The sixth to 10th finishers will receive P3,000 each while the 11th to 15th placers will pocket P1,000 apiece. The non-rated player who will make it to the top ten will receive P2,000.
The top three Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) wood pushers will also receive cash prizes as well as the top three ladies and top three kiddies who are aged 14 and below.
Registration fee is pegged at P300 while the ladies, kiddies, senior citizens and Cepca members will pay only P200.
