Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña
CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and his family will be spending the Christmas holidays abroad.
The city mayor, who is set to fly to the United States on December 23, said his trip overseas will also be for his long overdue medical check-up.
“Before, my check-up is every three months. Now, it is already 18 months, over 18 months,” he said.
Councilor Margot Osmeña, the mayor’s wife, will be joining him in the US. Their son, Miguel, and his family will also be spending the holidays there.
Mayor Osmeña is required by his doctors to submit himself to a yearly check-up to make sure he remains healthy and cancer-free.
It was in 2008 when the mayor was diagnosed with stage IV urinary bladder cancer. He underwent an operation in which his bladder, prostate, and 42 lymph nodes were removed.
He was declared cancer-free in 2014.
The Osmeña family will spend Christmas in San Francisco, California with Councilor Margot’s family.
But the mayor said he will be welcoming the new year in the hospital as his medical examination is scheduled on December 31.
The mayor said he will be back in Cebu City in early January.
