14 Chinese nationals nabbed for illegal gambling

FOURTEEN Chinese nationals, who were arrested last Wednesday (December 13, 2017) in Cebu City, are facing an illegal gambling complaint at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.

Supt. Reynaldo Magdaluyo of the Regional Intelligence Division (RID-7) and Regional Special Operations Group in Central Visayas (RSOG-7) said they filed the complaint on Friday.

According to an RSOG-7 statement, the Chinese nationals arrested are Na Na, 28; Mie Hong, 24; Chen Dan, 27; Lim Yang Shun, 31; Yun Feng, 31; Yu Che, 26; Zhou Zhi Zhong, 22; Liu We Seng, 31; Yu Yin Zen, 23; Ling Xun, 35; Lin Xiao Di, 23; Yi Lian, 22; Wang Dara of legal age and James Long, 28.

Magdaluyo said that they raided a house in a Banilad, Cebu City subdivision after a monthlong surveillance of the activities of the people in the house.

He said that they started the surveillance of the house after a person walked in and informed them about the suspicious activities of the people in the house.

After a month of surveillance, Magdaluyo said they got a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Allan Francisco Garciano of the Regional Trial Court Branch 83 in Mandaue City on Wednesday.

They then served the search warrant against Chih Hao Huang, who was not in the house during the operation.

Chih Hao Huang remains at large.

During the raid, the 14 Chinese nationals – 11 of them men while 3 others are women – were arrested while nine sets of computers were confiscated.
Magdaluyo said they caught the Chinese nationals operating an online numbers game.

The Chinese were arrested after they could not produce a permit for their online gambling operation.

Magdaluyo added that they had contacted the Chinese Embassy about the arrest.

The Chinese nationals were currently detained at the Fuente Police Station.

When asked why the Chinese nationals were not presented to the media despite having taken them into custody last week yet, Senior Supt. Jonathan Cabal, RID-7 chief, said he did not know about their arrest as he was in Manila during the operation.
