BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY
Netizens show concern for the stranded passengers after the state weather bureau advised the public about a possible tropical depression that could affect Central Visayas and Cebu on New Year’s Day.
The seas around Cebu have also started to get rough, forcing at least two shipping firms to cancel their trips on Saturday. There are at least 789 stranded passengers in different ports in Cebu.
Bernie J. Skylab wrote, “Be safe stay on land don’t take a chance. Please stay alive for the new year to come mga kababayans.”
Another netizen, Gregory John Bercasio, urged travelers to stay put instead: “Mas mabuti pang wag na kayong tumuloy dahil marami pang bagong taong darating mga kabayan. Ingat!”
Rizalyn Lovitos Dela Cruz felt bad for the stranded passengers but also admonished them for not getting out of Cebu early knowing that a weather disturbance was approaching: “Na mao nani ron! Diha jud mo mag new year… kabalo naa bagyo wa mo nagsayo ug uli stranded noon mo.”
Between Saturday and Sunday, hundreds of bus passengers heading to southern Cebu also had to queue for hours at the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT).
