Vendors to receive IDs today

VENDORS who were allowed to sell near the Sinulog Grand Parade route were told to comply with the rules lest they face sanctions.

“These vendors are identified per designated sector along the Sinulog route. If they stray away from their designated area they will be warned and then sanctioned,” said Genevieve Alcoseba, operations chief of City Hall’s Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP).

Alcoseba said the vendors should not tamper with their ID cards which they will distribute to them starting today since they have a master list of all registered vendors for the Sinulog.

All ID cards will be released at the San Roque Gym starting at 9 a.m. today until tomorrow.

The ID cards will only take effect this Saturday and next Sunday, Sinulog Day.

The ID cards will come in different colors to identify which vendor stays in a certain area along the parade route.

Alcoseba said there were only 2,794 vendors officially recorded at the DWUP’s database but their number went up to 3,000 to accommodate “water peddlers.”

Alcoseba said the vendors were allowed to choose their target area during the registration and the DWUP verified if their choices were feasible.

“If they say that they want to be situated in Robinsons, we cannot allow that because Robinsons is the bottleneck area. And they were being screened so they have to adjust,” she said.

Alcoseba said these are done to ensure order and cleanliness at the parade route./with USCT-Intern Therese Mae Alegado
