CPSC to inspect Gov’s Cup volleyball venues next week

THE Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) has upped the ante in its preparations to ensure a smooth hosting of one of its premier sports events for 2018, the inaugural Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament.

CPSC executive director Atty. Ramil Abing told Cebu Daily News yesterday that they will conduct a venue inspection for all participating municipalities next week as well as implement the refresher course for coaches and team managers.

“Next week we will have a venue inspection of the volleyball courts for all participating LGUs and then the refresher course for coaches and team managers will be held next week, January 25-27 at the Mandaue Sports Complex,” said Abing.

The bracketing of teams is yet to be announced.

“As much as possible every participating LGU will have a home game. But everything will be finalised next week during the refresher course. We will agree on the bracketing of LGUs as well as scheduling of the games,” Abing said.

The tournament will only have the women’s 18-under division which is dissimilar to its predecessor, the Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup, which had more than 40 teams in both male and female divisions.

On the other hand, 28 teams from 28 municipalities have already submitted their lineups and credentials and confirmed their entry.

The competing LGUs to the biggest and most prestigious volleyball tournament in Cebu include Alegria, Argao, Asturias, Balamban, Bantayan, Carcar City, Carmen, City of Bogo, Consolacion, Cordova, Dalaguete, Danao City, Ginatilan, Liloan, Mandaue City, Medellin, Minglanilla, Moalboal, Oslob, Samboan, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Santander, Sogod, Tabogon, Talisay City, Tuburan, and Tudela.

They will be battling for the P300,000 champion’s prize. The three runners-up will receive P200,000, P100,000, and P50,000, respectively.

The tournament will officially open on February 18 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Aside from the volleyball tournament, CPSC will also stage the second Governor’s Cup Inter Cities-Municipalities Basketball Tournament later this year. /Correspondent Mon Anthony Valmoria
