THE UNIVERSITY of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers came away with impressive victories at the start of the 3rd Raul Cabanero Cup Inter Secondary Basketball Tournament on Friday night at the Bulacao Sports Complex.
USJ-R got past the Southwestern University-Phinma Baby Cobras, 70-66, while USPF beat the Don Bosco Greywolves, 65-57.
Cesafi Mythical Five center Arnold Dave Ando led USJ-R with 14 points while Johndel Robles and John Kirk Gonzaga added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Harvey Kent Sanchez led the way with 18 points but leading scorer, Patrick Montano, was held down to just 10 markers.
In the second game, Winston Ynot broke out for 21 points to push USPF to the victory.
Two other players scored in double figures for the Baby Panthers with John Maglasang finishing with 16 and Kyle Ochavo pitching in 12 markers.
Grenal Malubay had 17 for the losing Greywolves.
The high school tournament is being done through the efforts of Bulacao Barangay Captain, Raul Cabanero. Also chipping in are Barangay Councilors, Banjo Abastillas, Darwin Cabanero and Agnes Lastimosa.
The tournament is being run under the watchful eye of technical committee head, Edwin Dejacto, Sr.
