Even if the Mandaue City Government has paid more than half on acquiring the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) from the Cebu Provincial Government, no formal turnover will be done yet unless the former has fully paid.

Yesterday, Provincial Treasurer Emmanuel Guial announced to reporters in a press conference at the Capitol compound that the Mandaue City Government has paid P200 million to the province as payment for the CICC.

The now-defunct CICC, a 3.2-hectare property that sits in a prime location in the North Reclamation Area of Mandaue City, was sold last August with a price tag of P300 million.

“We received two checks, one P90 million and the other is P110 million, from the Mandaue City Government which totals to P200 million last January 15. We’re expecting them to pay the last trench of the deal this June,” said Guial.

He added that the P200 million profit from selling CICC will be allocated for the upgrades of 16 province-owned hospitals.

“Na-schedule na ang P200 million nga ibutang sa pag-upgrade sa mga hospitals like sa Cebu Provincial Hospital sa Carcar City (The P200 million is already scheduled to be spent on upgrading hospitals such as the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar City),” Guial added.

In a follow-up interview, Provincial Administrator Mark Tolentino said that the property will only be turned over to Mandaue City Government if the latter has paid the remaining P100 million.

“But they can coordinate with the Capitol if they want to (tidy) things there.

Like when they needed the site as a temporary relocation for displaced families, they coordinated with us,” Tolentino added.
