MORE projects are in store for comedian Empoy Marquez, whose unexpected hit movie, “Kita Kita” opposite Alessandra de Rossi made him an instant favorite leading man.

The romantic dramedy—directed by Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo and shot in Japan—became one of the highest grossing films of last year and paved the way for
Marquez’s new status in the industry.

In an interview with Cebu’s Entertainment press last weekend, the comedian confirmed that he is working with Zanjoe Marudo for a new movie under Star Cinema titled, “Kusina Kings. Cebuano director
Victor Villanueva of “Patay na si Hesus”—another surprise hit film of 2017—is directing the film.

Marquez admitted that he feels pressure over the new film’s box office success considering that “Kita Kita” earned more than P300 million.

“Meron pong ganoong pakiramdam.

Pero nasa tabi po natin si God. Siya po nakakaalam kung anong nararapat,” he said.

Marquez is also set to topbill a newest teleserye with de Rossi, Arci Muñoz and Piolo Pascual.

“Kami na po ni Piolo (magka love team),” he said, in jest. “Hindi po, love team ko pa rin si Alex.”

He did not give much details about the TV series but said: “About po siya sa poor boy, tauhan sa junk shop.”

Marquez was in Cebu City last weekend as he joined MLhuillier’s float for Sinulog 2018.

MLhuillier is Marquez’s newest endorsement in addition to Mang Inasal, San Miguel, Lucky Me, and Isuzu Mu-X.

“First of all, I would like to thank MLhuillier sa pag adopt sa akin sa (kanilang) family. Pagbubutihin ko po relationship ko sa kanila,” he said.

Marquez started his career in 2003 when he won the the Mr. Suave contest on ABS-CBN’s noontime show, “Magandang Tanghali Bayan.”

He said that after the contest, he never expected to land a career in showbiz. But he has continually been blessed with projects.

“Actually sa kagandahan ng karera ko po mula 2003, di po ako pinabayaan ni Lord. Continuous po ‘yun. Di po ako nawalan ng trabaho kahit na
lumipat ako ng Channel 7, Channel 5 at bumalik ako ng Channel 2,” he said.
