Eleven-year-old Marco Queblatin shed tears of joy after scoring the lone goal that gave Ateneo the 11 Under Mix title of the 5th Titans Football Cup Saturday afternoon at the PAREF Springdale football field in Lahug, Cebu City.

Queblatin’s goal allowed Ateneo to frustrate Springdale A with a 1-0 victory at the latter’s home turf.

Both teams tried to score a goal in the whole 15-minute regulation with Springdale’s attempt hitting the bar twice.

Queblatin, for his part, had five attempts before his sixth try, a half volley, eventually found the back of the net.

The winning goal came after the Springdale keeper dove to save a free kick attempt but instead sent the ball bouncing towards Queblatin.

The former cager turned football player did not hesitate to turn around and use his left foot to flick the ball towards the goal which caught the goalie flatfooted.

“I feel very happy. I cried because I was so happy,” said Queblatin who added that the move was taught to him by his coach.

Queblatin has been playing football for a year now after he switched because he got bored with basketball.

The Magis Eagle booter will be adding up to his football experience when he sees action for the first time in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet which will be held in Bohol at the end of February.

Springdale A and Ateneo played in the same bracket B with Springdale dominating with 15 points after winning all their elimination matches. Ateneo placed second with 12 points after dropping one game in the eliminations.

In the semifinals, Springdale A beat Ondo Espresso FC, 3-2 while Ateneo blanked Warshockz, 2-0.

Warshockz, however, rebounded in the 7-Under Mix final by blanking Springdale, 2-0.

Just like the older Springdale team, the 7-Under squad also topped its bracket with an immaculate 9 points while the Warshockz finished second with 6 points.

The tournament will continue today with the 9-Under Mix and 13 Under categories, still at the same venue.
