THE SPECTRUM Runners Club continues to sizzle this year as three of its elite runners bagged titles in two separate races yesterday.
Spectrum’s Desiderio Engbino and Preciosa Sanchez won titles in the 102-kilometer Bataan Death March (BDM) while teammate Rafael Pescos ruled the Mactan Speed 50 in record fashion.
The 47-year-old Engbino of Bohol topped the male category of the BDM while the 48-year-old Sanchez reigned in the distaff side. It was the first time both marathoners joined the BDM.
It was actually a 1-2 finish for Spectrum in the male category as teammate Edilberto Batiancil finished second to Engbino.
Cebu Daily News has yet to determine the official times of the winners as of press time.
Pescos, meanwhile, topped the men’s 50k category of the Speed 50 in style, logging a new race record of three hours and 31 minutes.
Incidentally, he erased the 2015 record of Engbino that stood at 3:40.
The reigning Cebu Marathon 2018 men’s marathon champion now has four titles in a span of just two months. Aside from the Speed 50, Pescos of Hinigiran, Negros Occidental also won last December’s Antique International Marathon, Baybay City Marathon and the Cebu Marathon 2018.
Spectrum has had a blistering start to 2018 so far. During the Cebu Marathon 2018 last January 14, runners from the Cebu-based team swept all the titles of the prestigious event.
The winners were Pescos (42k men’s), Lizane Abella (42k women’s), Prince Joey Lee (21k men’s), Lovely Fe Andrin (21k women’s), Ruel Algufera (10k men’s),
Melody Perez (10k women’s), Mary Joy Loberanis (5k female), and Erlencito Pionela (5k male).
