The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) ordered a halt into the construction of a motorboat in a private property in Barangay Alegria, Cordova town after the lot owner filed a complaint at their office last year.
A hearing on the case is scheduled on Feb.22 in Cebu City. The order issued by Regional Marina Director Jose Venancio Vero Jr. stemmed from a complaint filed by lot owner Mario Cabahug, who said the boat building took place in his property without his permission.
Among those behind the project is a Cordova official, whom Cabahug said apologized to him after he learned about the boat building activity in his property last October.
Cebu Daily News is withholding the official’s identity until his side is heard on the case. Cabahug said the official told him that he didn’t know that he owned the property located along the shoreline.
The Marina ordered the Cordova official and his partner to submit their written response 10 days after receiving the order from their office.
The Marina said the property had been classified as an eco-tourism zone by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
Without an environmental compliance certificate (ECC), the Marina said it cannot authorize any ship building activity in the property.
