THE REIGNING Cebu champions SHS-Ateneo de Cebu and the University of the Visayas (UV) continued their march to a potential showdown as they won over their respective opponents in the second day of the SM NBTC Cebu League last Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Institute.
JJ Gesalem sizzled for the Magis Eagles as he scored 23 points to carry Ateneo de Cebu past the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 86-59.
Fil-Australian big man Alex Visser added 11 while defensive wiz Justin Javelosa showcased his offensive prowess with nine markers.
Kyle Ochavo showed off his skill and scored 27 points but the Baby Panthers faltered after they got off to a 23-21 lead after the first. They then got outscored, 65-38, the rest of the way.
The Baby Lancers, meanwhile, bested the University of San Carlos (USC), 81-73.
Reigning Cesafi MVP Beirn Laurente paced the boys in green in scoring with 16 markers while Joshua Yerro and Jhiey Paraldo added 14 and 12, respectively.
Ateneo de Cebu and UV now hold similar 2-0 (win-loss) records in this seven-team tournament.
In the last game of the triple-header, the Abellana National School schooled the Sisters of Mary Boystown, 77-64.
