CELLIDA is a smartphone short film festival that launched just last May 2017 together with the inauguration of the University of the Philippines Cebu College of Communication, Art, and Design (CCAD).
“Cellida” comes from the two words, “cell phone” and “salida” (Visayan for “movie” or “film”). It is open to all bona fide high school and college students of universities and colleges all around Cebu.
Cellida is an avenue for aspiring filmmakers from all walks of life to showcase their craft, aiming to break the stigma of needing expensive equipment for filmmaking.
This year’s theme puts emphasis on great things coming from small beginnings, making sure that Cellida promotes an environment that is friendly and accepting of beginners and experts alike.
In Cellida, they believe that the lack of equipment shouldn’t be a hindrance to significant storytelling and that even a mere smartphone can tell a multitude of stories.
This event is organized by Layag Productions, together with the Cebu Federation of Journalism and Communication Students, a unified body of ten universities in Cebu City including the University of the Philippines-Cebu, St. Theresa’s College, University of San Jose-Recoletos, Cebu Institute of Technology-University, University of the Visayas, Cebu Technological University, Benedicto College, Cebu Normal University, University of San Carlos, and Southwestern University-PHINMA.
With the goal of showcasing more of Cebu’s talents in filmmaking, Cellida is set to start rolling once again on February 10.
