LOCAL mountain bike riders have something to look forward to this month as the inaugural Ocaña Fiesta Invitational XC Challenge is officially set on Feb. 10 at the Barangay Ocaña race track in the City of Carcar, south Cebu.
The event will feature a semi-enduro circuit race that will cover two-kilometers of flat terrain.
The race is held inline with the celebration of the barangay’s annual fiesta in honor of Our Lady of Lourdes on Feb. 11.
Organizer Naune Elison “Kyrie Eleison” Mejares, a triathlete and a member of the Organique Triathlon Team based in Cebu, said the race aims to find potential riders in the area.
“[We want to] raise awareness about this amazing sport and inspire young riders, especially homegrown, who have a potential [to excel],” Mejares said.
Mejares organized the race in coordination with Ocaña Barangay Captain Dario Ramos and the barangay council and its youth task force.
The race will feature four categories; 39-below (15 loops), 40-above (10 loops), beginners (five loops), and local (five loops).
The winning riders in each category will pocket P2,000 while P1,500 will be given to the second placer and P1,000 for the third placer.
Registration fee is pegged at P300.
Riders can register at the Ocaña Barangay Hall.
