MARIBAGO Bluewater in Mactan is a paradise in itself, the demesne of the prominent Alegrado family. It even has a private island in the sun, and moon, and not just a sand bar.
This natural scenery was put to good advantage last Jan. 13 when Domiku Ugarte took the beautiful Evangeline Hayco for his bride in a ceremony blessed by heaven with a steady drizzle.
Guests were ferried on a barge, and later, in a flower decked vessel of her own Evangeline crossed the lagoon to enthusiastic applause from both shore lines.
Evangeline is the daughter of Eleanor and Edward Hayco, while Domiku is the son of June Alegrado and David Ugarte.
The wedding ceremony over, the newlyweds kissed beneath an arch of white flowers and crossed back to the beach front where the celebration was held.
Never mind the rain, most of everyone braved it, and anyhow there were umbrellas all over the place.
The buffet was an exposition of the best Maribago Bluewater has to offer, particularly the piles of fresh seafood, the desserts were to rave about.
I don’t recall how many chocolate trufles I plopped into my mouth.
Over 500 guests were in celebratory mood. Count them in: Evangeline’s grandmother, civic leader Martina “Beling” Go Ching Hai who held court amid a galaxy of relatives.
Domiku’s grandmother, Evelyn Graham Ugarte, beautiful as ever, surrounded by children and grandchildren.
Chary Aboitiz who enthused about this being the wedding of the year, out of a fairy tale and worthy of a history book. Everyone was there, a lively mixture of what Cebu really is.
Ambassador Francisco Benedicto, who braved the drizzle and rode on the barge to the wedding isle.
Augusto and Elizabeth Go, icons of Cebu’s most prominent circles.
And then, of course were the principal sponsors, Mariquita Yeung among them, partnered by Justice Andres Reyes Jr.
They are all in today’s photos, and since we have more pictures, wait for our next issue.
Till then.
