SPECTRUM Runners Club’s Rafael Pescos vowed to do his best in his stint in tomorrow’s the 7-Eleven Run 2018 in Cebu City.
The 22-year-old Pescos, who hails from Hinigiran, Negros Occidental, will compete in the 42-kilometer category of the race, which starts at the Cebu Business Park.
Pescos has been on a roll so far this year, winning four marathons just last month. He ruled the Antique International Marathon (AIM), Baybay City Marathon, the Cebu Marathon 2018 and the Mactan Speed 50 Ultramarathon.
But all those four were actually just part of his preparation for the 7-Eleven Run.
“My main focus is the 7-Eleven Run because last year I placed second in the Manila race, which gave me the opportunity to race abroad, particularly in Vietnam,” Pescos said during this week’s edition of Cebu Daily News’ Sportstalk on Facebook live last Thursday.
“It was a once in a lifetime experience for me to compete abroad for the first time that is why I consider this race as a top priority. The races that i’ve won earlier this year were just part of my training. The real race for me is on Sunday.”
Pescos finished second in the Manila leg of the 7-Eleven Run last year. He is expected to have home track advantage this time as Cebu hosts the event for the first time.
The race will simultaneously kick off in three cities: Manila, Cebu and Davao. Only the top three runners in all three legs will earn slots to represent the country in an international marathon race.
Aside from Pescos, Spectrum teammate Lizane Abella, who also topped the women’s 42k run of the Cebu Marathon 2018, will be joining. Other noted Spectrum runners competing will be Prince Joey Lee, Lovely Fe Andrin, Ruel Algufera, Melody Perez, Erlencito Pionela and Mary Joy Loberanis.
A total of 6,500 runners will answer the guns tart tomorrow at 4 a.m according to race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running.
The race will offer 42-kilometer, 21k, 16k, 10k, 5k, 5k-buddy, and 500-meter (kids run) distances.
More than P100,000 in cash await winning runners from the three races around the country.
