Back from a week-long  vacation abroad,  Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama yesterday ordered the release of a P3,000 cash gift to the city’s 60,000 registered seniors  on or before February 14.

“It’s going to be a Valentines gift for the seniors.” he said.

The amount consists of the P2,000 balance of the city’s 2013 annual assistance whose release was delayed, and another P1,000 from this year’s subsidy.

Acting City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas said the distribution is scheduled on Feb. 10 and 11.

A total of  P180 million will be released.

The City Council approved a  P720 million budget for seniors assistance this year or P12,000  each.

Mayor Rama in an earlier interview said he would definitely release  half of each senior’s allotment in cash but may  give the rest in kind or services and increase the amount depending on the city’s revenue this year.

Cuevas said the CTO has more than enough funds to cover the additional P1,000 for the seniors.

As of January 24, the CTO  collected P593 million during the renewal of business permits held in January.

The collection is P29 million more than last year’s collection.
