Booters from St. John the Baptist Academy of Garcia Hernandez,Bohol and Paref Springdale battle for ball control in their u18 match in the 8th Sinulog Football Festival yesterday.

FIRST timer G-Hernandez FC of Bohol made their Cebu trip worthwhile as they dethroned defending champions Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy, 2-1, via penalty shootout and secured the U18 Boys title of the 8th Sinulog Football Festival 2018 yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Finding the back of the net for the visiting team were Roland Oclarit and Charle Cagas.

Also a key player was goalkeeper Aaron Arnold R. Salise, who was able to foil one of the attempts of ANS Pomeroy.

It was a big win for G-Hernandez, which, according to coach Gilbert Macuse, is a team that has been winning tournaments in Bohol but still lacked exposure due to financial constraints.

So when coach Alvin Mangubat told them about the Sinulog Cup, they worked to get sponsorships so they could see action in the two-day 7-a-side tournament.

Team manager Rosanna R. Salise said their prayers were answered when Philippine Mining Sinter Corp., Bohol Limestone Corp and the Municipality of Garcia Hernandez supported the team. A few individuals — Ledes Duffy, Martina Musser and Eddie Acabu—also chipped in, Salise added.

G-Hernandez FC was not so lucky in the U15 Boys category as they failed to reach the knockout stage.

The title went to DB Boys Home, which managed to squeak past Guardian Strikers, 1-0.

Earlier in the day, Leylam continues its winning streak with its team A hoisting the Men’s Open trophy with a 1-0 blanking of Rising Sun.

In the Ladies Open, LNHS King Forest FC avenged its lone loss to Blucat in the eliminations by frustrating the latter, 1-0, in the championship match.

In the U18 Girls, it was Ateneo’s turn to avenge its loss against LNHS King Forest FC in the eliminations to bag the title via a penalty shootout, 4-3, after the regulation match ended scoreless.

Don Bosco added to its title after its team A copped the U13 Boys title with a 2-0 whipping of ANS Pomeroy.

The Inter BPO Men’s title went to Timex A who edged Convergy’s A, 2-1, via a penalty shootout.

Accenture FC successfully retained its title in the Inter BPO Ladies with a 1-0 edging of Optum.
