Run Rio brings popular Trilogy Run to the Queen City of the South for the first time

Due to insistent demand from Cebuano runners, Run Rio will be bringing its Run Rio Trilogy to Cebu on March 4.

The Run Rio Trilogy is a footrace that has three legs, with the longest distance increasing in each leg. The first leg will feature 21-kilometer, the second 32k, and the last 42k. All three legs will have sorter 10k anf 5k distances, too.

The running event that started in 2010 became an annual affair in Manila for many long-distance runners, including celebrities, because of the unique experience it provides its participants. It is conceptualized by renowned race director Rio Dela Cruz of Run Rio.

Run Rio managing partner Andrew Neri said in a press launching yesterday at the Cebu Grand Hotel that there is a reason behind the increasing distances.

“This run is designed for beginners. We made this a trilogy run because we don’t let runners engage in a 42k marathon right away. We let them run gradually,” Neri said. “That is why each leg has different distances so that runners who join the race can train further so that they can compete in the longer distance in the next legs.”

Neri added there was a clamor from Cebuano runners to stage this running event in Cebu.

Run Rio is considered as one of the top organizing teams in the country in terms of running events. It is the organizing team behind the nationwide National Milo Marathon. It once partnered with the Cebu Executive Runners Club in staging the annual Cebu Marathon.

According to Neri, what makes their running event unique aside from the gradual increase of the distances in the ensuing legs is that they award runners who complete the longest distances in all three legs.

Aside from bagging a uniquely designed inter-connecting finishers medal, they will also hold an awards night to recognize finishers who completed all three legs.

“We call those who completed the three legs as graduates and we recognize them if they complete the three legs,” added Neri.

The 5k distance will also have a family category and barkada category composed of four persons. There is also a 10k buddy run aside from the individual categories in each distance. Aside from the finishers medal, the runners who complete the 21k in the first leg on March 4 will receive an Adidas finishers shirt.

Registration is now going on at the Cebu City Sports Center and at the Olympic Village in Ayala Center Cebu.
