REIGNING Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) champions University of San Carlos (USC) and runner-up University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) renew their rivalry in a virtual must-win game in the Men’s Open of the 19th Aboitiz Football Cup today at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Game time is 5 p.m.
The two teams have set up a kind of El Clasico in the Cesafi as they have faced each other four times for the collegiate title with the Warriors denying the Panthers each time.
Now, both are fighting for a quarterfinal ticket with both teams having a point each with same 0-1-1 (win-loss-draw) cards.
The winner will advance to the quarterfinals as the no.2 team behind Rising Sun (3-0-0) in bracket C.
A draw will not be beneficial for the Panthers as they trail the Warriors on goal difference since they lost to the Rising Sun by six points.
There are 3 brackets in the Men’s Open category and the top 2 teams will advance to the quarterfinal round. The first and second best teams will complete the top 8.
There are two teams which have already advanced to the quarterfinals — last season’s runner-up ERCO and the Rising Sun.
