6 injured after truck rams house in Balamban

SIX persons were injured after a 10-wheeler dump truck plowed through a house along the Transcentral Highway, Barangay Cansumoroy, Balamban, southwest Cebu on Tuesday.

Those injured were Gemma Ardillo, 58, owner of the house, her two daughters Bevina Ardillo, 27, and Jocelyn Ardillo Pamas, 24, and two grandchildren, and the truck boy identified as Edgardo Mercado.

According to PO1 Andy Mabanta of Balamban Police Station, the Isuzu dump truck (plate no. DXK 918) driven by Socrates Alcos, 49, of Barangay Pundol, Balamban, was descending the foggy road due to heavy downpour brought by Tropical Depression Basyang last Tuesday morning on their way back to Balamban after delivering sands in Cebu City when its brake allegedly malfunctioned and hit the concrete house of the Ardillos along the roadside.

PO1 Mabanta said all the victims were immediately transported by the municipality’s rescue team to a hospital in Cebu City after sustaining injuries, while the driver was put under police custody, but was released yesterday after the case was settled amicably.
