Former Agus Barangay Captain Remegio “Bo” Oyao was killed in an ambush by motorcycle-riding gunmen shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday in Agus Road in Lapu-Lapu City.

Oyao, who suffered several gunshot wounds in the body, was rushed to the Mactan Doctors Hospital, but doctors there declared him dead on arrival, said Chief Insp. Juan Capacio, Police Station 4 chief of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, in a phone interview with Cebu Daily News.

Capacio said initial investigation showed that Oyao, who was with a companion, was driving his Ford F-150 pickup truck along Agus Road and was stuck in traffic when they reached the area in front of 4J & A Barbeque Station.

While Oyao was waiting for the traffic to move, two men on a motorcycle, who were wearing face masks, suddenly stopped beside Oyao’s car.

The backrider pulled out a gun and fired at the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The two men then sped away on their motorcycle and fled the area.

Oyao’s companion was not hurt in the shooting attack.

Capacio said that Chief Insp. Mark Gifter Sucalit, Lapu-Lapu City Police Office City Intelligence Branch chief, together with his team were conducting a hot pursuit operation to try to arrest the killers.

Oyao was previously indicted for being involved in illegal drugs, but the cases against him were later dismissed.

His brother, Washington “Inday” Oyao, 64, was shot dead by an unknown assailant inside his store in Sitio Malinao, Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City last September 2016.
