‘DEATH DUE TO NEGLIGENCE’

The road mishap involving a cargo truck loaded with vegetables in Barangay Don Andres Soriano, Toledo City, Cebu at dawn on Saturday left many netizens in shock because of the unnecessary loss of lives due to lack of safety consciousness among its passengers and drivers.

The passengers who were at the back of the truck who were sitting atop bales of vegetables were thrown off after the vehicle fell on its side, killing two and injuring nine others.

The driver lost the control of the heavily loaded truck after it lost its brakes while negotiating a curved downhill portion of a barangay road.

Alan Schmidt wrote: “Why is it allowed for people to ride on top of these loads. They never think what if??? So sad a death due to negligence.”

Another netizen named Utet Aztecs GF Adilavac lamented: “Overloading. Why (did) this cargo (got past) traffic enforcers from Cebu City down to Toledo City?”

Esme Lou Beavis made this suggestion: “overweight, no safety checks, and the result is the deaths of innocent. Stop this and have the police pull over these overloaded vehicles and impound (them).”
