BACK-TO-BACK champions Leylam Football Club (FC) stayed on course for a grandslam in the Men’s Open of the 19th Aboitiz Football Cup.
The defending champions advanced to the quarterfinal round after scoring a masterful 3-0 blanking of the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars late Tuesday at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
Sealing the quarternals ticket for Leylam FC was Raffy Llorente, who scored a brace in the 49th and 58th minute of the match. Opening the scoring spree for the Leylam was Andrew Emmanuel in the 26th minute.
Leylam advanced to the knockout stage with nine points after winning all of their elimination matches.
Leylam joins runner-up ERCO and Rising Sun in the quarterfinals. Five more slots are still up for grabs.
The 19th Aboitiz Football Cup will resume on the first week of March as it will give way to the 15th Thirsty Cup happening this weekend also at the CCSC.
