BORACAY ISLAND, AKLAN – Workers using jackhammers have started the demolition of illegal structures at a controversial resort here on Saturday.
The workers tore structures built on rock formations at the Boracay West Cove Resort in Barangay Balabag around 10:15 a.m.
Property owner Crisostomo Aquino earlier agreed to demolish the structures after Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu threatened to remove them because these were built outside areas covered by a property lease agreement with the government and because these were on rock formations.
Two other resorts that have deficiencies in permits and requirements also have voluntarily closed until they met all government requirements.
