The local government unit of Ronda may reward P500,000 to any witness who can provide leads for the speedy investigation of the killing of Atty. Jonnah John Ungab.
However, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) province supervisor Jerome Gonzales suggested that the municipal government should consult the Commission on Audit for the specific guidelines regarding the allocation of the reward.
“Mas maayo if they will ask COA’s suggestion. Auditing government funds, that’s under the jurisdiction of COA. If they want specifics, much better if they go to COA,” said Gonzales
Ungab’s brother, Jonald, previously made an appeal to the local government unit, headed by its incumbent mayor Mariano Blanco III, to release such amount as reward to witnesses of the crime.
Blanco is the uncle of the slain lawyer and former vice mayor of Ronda.
But Blanco told reporters yesterday that he will have to ask COA for their opinion, considering that Ungab happened to be his nephew and government funds will be used.
