A 34-YEAR-OLD man, who was the one of the suspects in last year’s killing of a former police officer, was arrested near his house on Tuesday in Barangay Bangbang in Cordova town in Mactan Island.
Andrew Heruela was arrested after the agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) served him a warrant of arrest at 5 a.m., said NBI-7 Regional Director Patricio Bernales in an interview.
The warrant of arrest was issued by Judge Ferdinand Collantes of Branch 54 of the Regional Trial Court of Lapu-Lapu City, for the crime of murder.
No bail was recommended for the suspect.
Bernales said that Heruela is one of the suspects in the May 17, 2017 killing of Eligio Mantilla, a former police officer.
Mantilla was heading home to Cordova when he was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle in Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City.
Heruela during an interview at the NBI-7 detention cell denied the allegations linking him to the shooting of Mantilla.
He said that they were neighbors but he did not know the victim.
As he denied the allegations against him, he also said that he would answer in court the charges against him.
Heruela was detained at the NBI-7 detention cell.
