WITH minimal problems experienced in yesterday’s traffic re-routing dry run, work starts today on some portions of Ouano Avenue in Mandaue City.
“The only problem we see is that some motorists were not informed that there’s a re-routing done in Ouano Ave. So we’ll put up more warning signs in areas near the causeway and issue more advisories,” said Regional Director Ador Canlas of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-7). Otherwise, Canlas said traffic was manageable.
“We will continue with the re-concreting project this Wednesday. We can start mobilizing the equipment of the contractor,” he said.
Glenn Antigua, head of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team), said there was no traffic gridlock experienced in M. Logarta Ave. for the duration of yesterday’s dry run.
Antigua said they assigned 10 traffic enforcers to handle traffic flow in the morning, and another 10 in the afternoon.
The Ouano Avenue Rehabilitation Project costs P169.9 million and targets to replace the existing asphalt on its 1.9-kilometer stretch with 35-centimeter thick concrete.
The re-concreting project is divided into six phases, with Phase 1 being the subject of yesterday’s dry-run.
In Phase 1, three lanes of the right portion of Ouano Ave. that accommodate vehicles from Cebu City to Mandaue City will be closed while one will be open to allow light vehicles to pass through.
Heavy vehicles, such as trucks and buses, will be diverted to F. Zuellig Avenue or M. Logarta Avenue.
