Megaworld’s Newtown school venture in Visayas to start operations in June

A La Salle-supervised school will be opening at the 30-hectare Mactan Newtown township in Lapu-Lapu City this June.
Dubbed as “Newtown School of Excellence (NSE),” the school will be property giant Megaworld Corporation’s first school venture in the Visayas.
Megaworld Cebu Properties Inc. President Noli Hernandez said the company invested P240 million in building the school since 2014. The entire campus is almost one hectare in size.
“The school will primarily cater to the children of the township owners, particularly those who live in our condominium developments,” he said in a press conference at Marco Polo Plaza yesterday afternoon.
“We will also cater to the children of the expat community and residents of Lapu-Lapu City and nearby towns and cities as well as the children of those working in nearby businesses and business process outsourcing (BPO) companies,” he added.
For the coming school year 2018-2019, the NSE will only cater to 120 nursery and kindergarten students in their single-storey building. It has three classrooms, a library, playground and a multipurpose hall.
Hernandez said they are still finishing the construction of their other five-storey building which will soon host their grade school and high school classrooms. He said they target to start classes for grade 1 to 3 by next school year.
Once the second building is finished, the NSE will be able to cater to a total of 600 to 800 students.
Although owned by Megaworld, the school will be exclusively managed and supervised by  the Lasallian Schools Supervision Services Association Inc. (LASSSAI) and will have curricula in different programs that will be “technology-based and will be geared towards academic excellence and proficiency.”
LASSSAI President Jun Erguiza FSC said the NSE will be the first La Salle-supervised school in Metro Cebu.
