Former senator and now Taguig City Representative Pia Cayetano has joined the All Women’s Ultramarathon twice already.
And in those two stints, she continues to be amazed with the determination of every participant of the 50-kilometer run.
In the seventh edition of the annual event held in line with the celebration of Women’s Month, 324 women were able to finish, and Cayetano feels so proud of each of them.
“I want the participants to know that I am so inspired by all of them. For those who finished, those who have done it for seven years and those beginners and those like me who joined for the second time, congratulations! Keep on inspiring other women,” said Cayetano, who crossed the finish line in eight hours, 59 minutes and 26 seconds.
The ultramarathon started and finished at the Cebu Provincial Capitol.
Back-to-back
Spectrum Runners Club’s ace female long-distance runner Lizane Abella continued her reign as the champion of the annual run.
Although the ultramarathon was non-competitive, the organizers still awarded the winners.
The 28-year-old Abella, who is from Minglanilla town, southern Cebu, logged a new AWUM record by finishing in 4:21.04. She eclipsed the previous record of 4:32.93 which she logged in the 2017 edition.
“I really enjoyed the run that I did not notice that I was really running fast and was about to break the record,” said Abella, who works as a material handler in Lapu-Lapu City.
