With this in mind, Councilor Joel Garganera said he will author a resolution which he will present to the city council in Tuesday’s session to commend college student Mitch Roldan of the Cebu Institute of Technology- University (CIT-U) for raising a concern on the need to open the city library on extended hours.

Garganera said he will also give the same recognition to the Office of the Mayor for approving the 24/7 operations of the city library located at the ground floor of the Rizal Memorial Library and Museum along Osmeña Boulevard.

“This is a very good project. I commend the one who brought up the idea, Mitch Roldan, and the office of the mayor (for approving Roldan’s request). Well, we’re commending them because, in my case, my children, we spend so much in coffee shops to study. I think it (demand for a place to study) is also the reason why there are a lot of coffee shops (opening in the city),” he said.

Garganera is also asking barangay officials to provide a study center in their respective areas.

“We’re also urging barangay officials to replicate the template of (the) Rizal Library. They could also put up a good Wi-Fi connection, air conditioners, chairs, tables, and well-lit rooms and maybe dress codes because our libraries deserve respect,” he added.
