First senior high job fair set on March 24

The Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), together with the members of the private sector, has formalized a partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) to support classroom-building efforts through “Bayanihang Pampaaralan” (BP) that was launched in 2011.

BP is an initiative of the 57-75 Movement pushing for the construction of 10,000 classrooms in two years. It aims to consolidate classroom building efforts and direct funds to the construction of classrooms in areas that need the most assistance.

From the experience, BP discovered that providing classrooms is not sufficient to meet the desired outcomes like improvement in academic performance so the consortium decided to rethink and expand its focus. And BP’s focus was to help DepEd fulfill the promise of the SHS program.

This gives birth to the BP Visayas SHS Steering Committee that will look into the implementation of SHS specifically for the Technical Vocational and Livelihood (TVL) Track.

The BP Visayas Steering Committee has always believed that collective impact in education reform is best achieved when there is strong collaboration between the private sector, the academe, and other government agencies.

One of its pioneering projects is the holding of the 1st Senior High School TVL Job Fair on March 24, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Abellana Sports Complex.

This event is in partnership with the Cebu City government through the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) with the support of the Department of Labor and Employment, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and Cebu City Schools Division.

The job fair also aims to generate data that will evaluate the readiness of SHS graduates to enter the workforce.

Moreover, the results will aid stakeholders in developing approaches to improve the SHS curriculum and develop strategy on how industry players can collaborate with the academe in preparing senior high school students/ graduates for work.
